NATO Launches Counter-Drone Technology Testing at New Innovation Range in Latvia
NATO has commenced its first Test, Evaluation, Verification and Validation (TEVV) campaign at the newly established NATO Innovation Range in Latvia. The March 9–13 campaign focused on UAS and Counter-UAS (C-UAS) technologies submitted by allied nations and industry partners.
Key Details
Location: Latvia — strategically positioned on NATO’s eastern flank, providing realistic operational testing conditions.
Scope: First TEVV campaign testing both UAS platforms and counter-UAS systems, evaluating detection, tracking, and neutralization capabilities against diverse drone threats.
Purpose: Establish standardized testing protocols for NATO member states’ drone and counter-drone technologies, accelerating interoperability and procurement decisions.
Tactical Significance
Latvia’s Innovation Range represents NATO’s commitment to operational testing over lab-only evaluation. The proximity to potential threat vectors from the east makes this a uniquely realistic proving ground. For defense tech companies, NATO certification through this range could become a critical market access credential.
