Robinson Helicopter Launches “Robinson Unmanned” Division

Robinson Helicopter Company, the world’s largest civil helicopter manufacturer, has established a new business unit called Robinson Unmanned, dedicated to developing unmanned rotorcraft for defense and commercial applications.

Key Developments

R66 Turbinetruck Unmanned Variant: Cargo helicopter drone based on the proven R66 turbine platform, currently under DoD development program.

Full Group 1-4 Lineup: Robinson Unmanned envisions offering drones spanning Group 1 (small tactical) to Group 4 (large cargo/logistics) categories.

Defense Focus: Primary market is military logistics, MEDEVAC, and cargo resupply in contested environments.

Tactical Significance

Robinson’s entry into unmanned aviation is significant: the company’s 50+ years of rotorcraft manufacturing and FAA-certified supply chain provide a credibility advantage over startup competitors. An unmanned R66 variant could deliver heavy-lift logistics at a fraction of the cost of purpose-built military cargo drones, leveraging existing maintenance networks and parts supply chains worldwide.
