The KNDS Dual-Platform Deployment

At BEDEX 2026, KNDS CBRN announced two autonomous systems: the ESSENTIAL DECON S-04 for aircraft decontamination and the ESSENTIAL DECON L-01 high-capacity truck-mounted system. The French DGA has ordered 21 L-01 systems for deployment by early 2028. These are not prototypes — they are production orders with fixed delivery timelines, backed by France’s assumption of NATO ARF land and air command in July 2026.

The Competitive Landscape

KNDS’s approach is wet decontamination at industrial scale — large platforms, significant water requirements, vehicle-dependent logistics. CBRN-CADS’s dry modality operates at the opposite end: zero water, single-operator, drone-deployable. These are not competing solutions but complementary tiers. The strategic question is which tier NATO doctrine will prioritize for forward-deployed rapid response — and the ADS RFI suggests the answer favors the lighter, faster architecture.
